Donates Funds for International Disaster Relief

International humanitarian relief charity, ShelterBox USA partnered with national flooring retailer, Lumber Liquidators on a social media challenge, resulting in a $5,000 donation to help families made homeless by disasters.Following earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, conflict or other disasters, ShelterBox delivers emergency shelter and lifesaving equipment—boxes of aid, which contain a high-quality tent, water purification system, cook-stove, blankets and other essential tools to help a family rebuild their lives in the days, weeks or months that follow a disaster.

During Big ShelterBox Week, the organization’s annual awareness and fundraising week, Lumber Liquidators challenged the nonprofit to make 5,000 new friends—Twitter followers or Facebook likes—by the end of the week for a $5,000 donation.“Lumber Liquidators is proud to continue our support of ShelterBox and the work they do around the world, helping to provide shelter to families following disasters,” said Tom Sullivan, chairman and founder of Lumber Liquidators.

With the help of Lumber Liquidators, its volunteers and social media following, the organization reached its 5,000 goal just minutes before the campaign ended. “Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have proven to be very effective and efficient ways for us to communicate with stakeholders interested in disaster relief and our efforts to provide emergency shelter to families,” said Emily Sperling, ShelterBox USA president.
