An Upstate plant will shut down, putting nearly 200 jobs at risk.Mohawk Industries, a flooring manufacturer, says its Abbeville County facility will close as part of a realignment of its yarn operations.The company says the Calhoun Falls plant will be consolidated at Bennettsville in Marlboro County.The plant is expected to close by late September, when 190 employees will be offered career assistance.
Everything Old World is new again“Closing Calhoun Falls is necessary due to changes in our business,” says Jerry Hendrix, senior director of human resources. “Because we respect and value the exceptional men and women at Calhoun Falls, we explored every option before making this decision.”Additional jobs will be available in Bennettsville after equipment is relocated.
Stay away from real hardwood in the popular dark-stain colours, which will be no match for a large dog and will readily show scratches and footprints. Airtight flooring key on Passivhaus retrofit
A semi-detached house in Warwickshire has become the second building in the UK to secure the Passivhaus certification for a refurbishment known as the EnerPhit standard.The design and specification of the flooring was key in achieving the standard. A combination of insulation and the installation of an airtight barrier helped cut the U-value of the flooring from around 2.5 to 0.1W/(m2K). Overall the refurbished home achieved an air leakage at +/- 50 Pa of just 0.57/hr, well within the 1/hr required under the EnerPhit standard.
The project in Wellesbourne was part of a pilot project looking at how the energy performance of a pair of 1955 Wimpey no-fines semi-detached homes could be improved through creating highly insulated, airtight buildings.Number 58 Elliott Drive was refurbished to Passivhaus standards and had new insulation in the floor, walls and floor as well as a MVHR system, solar PV tiles, gas central heating and low energy appliances. The affordable green retrofit project next door just had external insulation installed and air tightness was improved without the use of membranes or specialist tape.

A Leland-based residential Mezzanine Floor Manufacturers that dates back to the early 1900s – has closed, according to a voice recording Monday. "Regrettably, our lender, Sun Trust Bank, has in effect closed our operations,"the message said. "The Dean family is working to establish a new entity, Dean Wood International.
